Working with property developer Sky Hold Group and builder Aurelien Berson Construction, All Cleared completed the demolition of a block of 3-level apartment units in Bowen Terrace, New Farm. The client wanted to ensure that any demolition works were as environmentally friendly as possible, with as many materials from the site recycled as possible.
Scope of Work
The scope of work included the complete, sustainable demolition of a 3-level suspended concrete slab and the removal of the double-brick apartment block, including all foundations, boundary fence lines and retaining walls. A full strip-out of C&D waste was also completed before demolition began.
Challenges And Hurdles
– Traffic control and management: The site was located in the heart of New Farm, so traffic management was of high importance. The key to efficiency was allowing all machinery and trucks to enter and exit the site safely. We also wanted to ensure that we minimised traffic congestion during peak hours.
– Dust control: The building was located close to neighbouring properties. Therefore, it was essential for us to reduce the amount of dust where possible. All demolition had to be carefully controlled and exhausted, ensuring the safety of people living and working in the area.
– Site management and safety: To avoid incidents, the on-site team had to ensure the project ran on time. Site management and organisation were key to maintaining a safe work environment for our people and the community around us.
Working With Short Timelines
The client gave us five weeks to complete and hand over the project. All Cleared’s efficiency allowed us to complete it in three and a half weeks, saving the client time and money.
Our Sustainable Demolition Process
Our key focus is paving the way for sustainable demolition and waste removal within the construction industry. Our team takes the utmost care when removing materials, carefully sorting what can be salvaged and recycled to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills.
During this project, all brick and concrete removed from the site was crushed and repurposed as recycled aggregate. Reinforced steel was extracted from the suspended concrete slabs and recycled for reuse. All copper, wiring and cables were also recycled.
